AAMI Sponsorship

AAMI Skilled Drivers program

Designed to promote safe driving behaviour among licensed drivers under 25, the program commenced in 1982 and demonstrates AAMI’s commitment to road safety. The program is a practical one-day course where participants are instructed on safe and defensive driving techniques in their own car. The course is free for under 25s who have a comprehensive insurance policy with AAMI, or who are the children or grandchildren of AAMI comprehensive policy holders. Participants receive a 10 per cent discount on their insurance premium while they are under 25.
In 2008, 5177 young drivers completed the program. AAMI contributed almost $1.1 million to the running costs. Participants also benefitted from almost $1 million in savings on their premiums.

In 2008, in conjunction with the NSW Government’s Staysafe Committee, an analysis of AAMI claims data showed young drivers were less likely to lodge a claim for an at-fault crash if they had participated in Skilled Drivers. This clearly demonstrates the value of the program and its ability to reduce injury and, potentially, save lives.

Victoria SES Partnership

AAMI has a long-standing partnership with the Victoria SES. Through this partnership, AAMI funds an innovative program to equip branches throughout Victoria with vital tools to help volunteers in their rescue efforts. AAMI funds a comprehensive public awareness campaign about the equipment handovers to draw attention to the vital work of SES volunteers. The program also funds advertising and community service announcements about the SES Driver Reviver program around peak holiday periods. In 2008, AAMI contributed close to $450,000 to the vital work of Victoria SES, and since the partnership began, AAMIs contribution to Victoria SES has totalled more than $3 million.

Staff Involvement in the Community

In 2008, AAMI staff raised significant funds which were administered between a number of worthy charitable organisations and grass-roots community clubs and associations.
AAMI’s charity committees play a central role in organising fundraising efforts across the company. In 2008, AAMI staff raised $70,000 for 14 charities. Of this, AAMI matched almost $55,000, taking the total charitable donation to more than $121,000.

Belonging Small Grants program

The AAMI Belonging Small Grants program supports AAMI staff who volunteer within the community. Under the program, which has been running since 2001, AAMI staff can apply for a cash grant twice a year to help provide financial support to a community organisation they participate in. In 2008, AAMI provided $60,000 to 38 community organisations nationally.

National Trauma Research Institute P.A.R.T.Y Program

AAMI is helping educate senior school students about the devastating effects of traumatic injury by sponsoring a ground-breaking program run by the National Trauma Research Institute (NTRI).

The Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth (PARTY) program aims to reduce risk-related death and disability among senior school students by showing them the devastating impact of trauma first hand. The education programs are designed to help students recognise potentially dangerous situations and, subsequently make better choices and adopt behaviours that minimise unnecessary risk.

The program will be based at Australia's busiest trauma hospital, The Alfred, where more than 1100 major trauma patients are treated each year.
