What is MAI Insurance?

Motor Accident Injuries (MAI) Insurance covers everybody who is injured in a motor vehicle accident in the ACT. You may be entitled to receive treatment, care and lost income benefits for up to five years – regardless of who is at fault.

How much does it cost?

In the ACT, MAI Insurance is included in your total registration fee paid to Access Canberra when you register your vehicle.

  • Covers injuries you may cause to people in a motor vehicle accident
  • Covers injuries to road users including drivers, passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, motorbike riders, and pillion passengers
  • Most people injured in a motor vehicle accident will be entitled to receive treatment, care and lost income benefits for up to five years – no matter who was at fault
