CTP Insurance Queensland

Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance protects you as a vehicle owner or driver in the event of a personal injury claim made against you, by passengers in your vehicle and other road users. CTP insurance does not cover damage to property or other vehicles  (see Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance for this type of cover). CTP is compulsory and a condition of motor vehicle registration in QLD.

2Buying a Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Certificate

If you are planning to register your vehicle in Queensland, you will need to purchase a Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Certificate.

How to purchase a CTP Certificate?
You can purchase an AAMI CTP Certificate over the phone.  The CTP Specialist Team is available between 8.30 am – 5.00 pm Monday to Friday to assist you in purchasing the certificate.
Call 13 22 44 and ask for a Qld CTP Specialist.

The process is quick if you have the below information available when you contact us:

  • Visa or Mastercard
  • Access to print an email or receive a facsimile
  • Year, make and model of the vehicle and
  • Vehicle identification number (VIN), Engine or Chassis number of the vehicle you plan to register

Will purchasing a CTP policy certificate cover me if the vehicle is not registered?

  • Yes, for restricted use only. If you purchase a CTP certificate, you can drive the vehicle directly to the nearest Safety Certificate Inspection (Roadworthy) station and directly on to Queensland Transport to register the vehicle. You must carry the CTP certificate and a completed Registration Application Form in the vehicle with you. No other road use is permitted before the vehicle is registered.

Moving From Interstate?

  • If your interstate registration is current and you're moving to QLD, a CTP Certificate is NOT required but you will need to obtain a current Safety Certificate to present to QLD Transport
  • If your registration is not current and you're moving to QLD you will need to purchase a CTP Certificate and a Safety Certificate to register your vehicle in QLD.
