AAMI Safe Driver Rewards benefits explained

Eligible AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance customers can receive Safe Driver Rewards benefits after driving safely for a year. When it’s time to renew your policy, be rewarded with a percentage off the rated premium you paid last year for the car as a credit. Then, for every consecutive year you renew with AAMI and drive safely, you’ll earn a progressively higher credit, as well as increased discounts on AAMI Roadside Assist.

The maximum you can save is 15% in Safe Driver Rewards credit*, plus up to 25% off optional AAMI Roadside Assist^.

*Maximum 15% credit is for drivers who don't make a claim on their AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance policy that impacts their Safe Driver Rewards status for 10 years+. Credit is a percentage of the rated premium paid the previous year and is applied as a credit to next year's rated premium. The rated premium is the calculated premium before any Safe Driver Rewards credits.

^Maximum discount is for drivers who don't make a claim on their AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance policy that impacts their Safe Driver Rewards status for 9 years+.

How can I retain my Safe Driver status?

AAMI determines your Safe Driver Rewards status by looking at:

  • your claims history, including the claims of other drivers covered by your policy, and
  • the number of years the drivers covered under your policy have been driving.

As long as you and other drivers covered under your policy are not responsible for causing an accident, you’ll retain your Safe Driver status. For example, if your vehicle is damaged by hail or rear-ended while you’re waiting at traffic lights, and you’re found not to be at fault, you’ll retain your status once your claim is settled.

Whether or not you think you may be at fault, after any accident you’ll want to gather details about what happened to support your claim. After making sure everyone’s OK, swap details with all drivers, passengers and witnesses, gather driver licence and registration info and take photos. To keep everything organised, you can add these details directly to the AAMI App.

Renew your policy

Keep in mind you have a duty to report even minor accidents to your insurer, as well as any modifications or changes you make to your vehicle. Safe driving is just one factor that affects your car insurance cost. Your premiums can fluctuate based on factors like where your car is kept overnight, the type of car, its age, and how many kilometres you drive.

Prevention through AAMI Skilled Driver course

You can earn up to 10% off your AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance premium by completing the AAMI Skilled Driver Course. Or, if your child or grandchild completes the course, you could receive the discount on your Comprehensive Car Insurance policy provided they are under the age of 25 and a listed driver on your policy.#

The AAMI Skilled Drivers course equips drivers under the age of 25 with a range of safe driving techniques. The one-day course is conducted in a controlled environment under the strict supervision of experienced trainers and it’s easy to register online for an upcoming date.

AAMI Skilled Drivers course is a great way to help a young person be safer on the road – and it can be great value for you too.
