Many of your general questions can be answered here.
If you have a specific question regarding your own policy, please contact us
You can obtain a quote and start a Car, Motorcycle, Home, Landlord, Travel or NSW CTP policy using your payment card (we accept Visa, Master Card, AMEX) using the AAMI website’s secure payment online.
AAMI also provides the option for you to start your cover and agree to pay us later via an account we send you - choose our Pay Later method when buying a policy online.
If you are looking for ePay to pay for a renewal or policy change notice online, or want to learn about our other payment options, please go to our Online Services page.
AAMI allows you to cancel your policy at any time. So long as you don’t need to make a claim, we will refund you the unexpired portion of the premium, less our cancellation fee and less any non-refundable government charges if the refund is more than $10.
We will not charge a cancellation fee if:
- You are transferring cover to another car insurance policy with us; or
- You exercise your cooling off rights
You are able to access your policy and make some changes (including changing your address), simply by logging on to AAMI's online tools.
By setting up your access you will be able to:
- Renew and view your policy and premium options
- Receive certificates of insurance
- View past transactions
- Change your address and other contact details
The following policy types are not shown in AAMI’s online tools:
Motorcycle Insurance, Caravan Insurance, Contents Fire & Theft (Renter's) Insurance, International Travel Insurance, Business Insurance, Life Insurance, Accidental Death Insurance, Income Protection Insurance and Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Insurance.
An excess is the amount that you have to pay for each insured incident when you make a claim. When you make a claim we may require you to pay the excess or we may deduct the excess from any payment we make to you. We will tell you when and how the excess is to be paid or deducted. When one or more excesses apply to your policy, they will be shown on your certificate of insurance or in your PDS.
When your building and contents at the one address are insured with AAMI on the same policy and your claim is for loss or damage to both your contents and your buildings, only the higher of your flexi-premium building excess or flexi-premium contents excess is payable (plus any other excess that applies).
You can save on your Home Building and Contents premium, as well as your Comprehensive Car or Motorcycle insurance premium, with AAMI’s Flexi-Premiums. When you choose a higher flexi-premium excess, your premium will be lower.

We also reward you with a discount for combining your building and contents for the same address on the same policy with us.
We do not provide further discounts for health care card holders or pensioners.

If you are unhappy with anything we have told you or done for you, please tell us. Most times we will be able to sort the matter out to your satisfaction. For problems that are not so easily resolved, AAMI has a complaints resolution process. Any AAMI policyholder who is dissatisfied with the outcome of his or her dealings with AAMI can ask us to review the matter.
Any policyholder who remains dissatisfied with our decision after appealing first to AAMI (call us first on 13 22 44) and then to its Internal Dispute Resolution (IDR) team has the right to ask the Financial Ombudsman Service to review the matter. There is no charge in either case.
If you are not insured by AAMI or you are not insured at all, you can still use the AAMI complaints resolution process. As a non policyholder, you may be eligible to appeal to the Financial Ombudsman Service and we and/or the Financial Ombudsman Service will be able to advise you on that. If you are eligible, you may be required to pay a fee to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
The Financial Ombudsman Service can be contacted at: email@example.com
Please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org requesting a change of address. The e-mail will need to include:
- your policy number(s) and/or car registration number(s)
- mailing address as it currently appears on your insurance policy
- previous residential address, new residential address (for motor insurance, the address where your vehicle will now be ordinarily kept overnight)
- e-mail address
- new postal address (if different from residential)
- date of change
- any new contact telephone numbers
- date of birth (for security reasons).
