Many people think private AAMI Health Insurance is something you'll only use when you're unwell. Extras cover, however, can help with a range of everyday healthcare services that support your health and wellbeing throughout the year.
From preventative dental check-ups to remedial massage, you may be able to claim benefits for services you regularly use, even when you're feeling perfectly healthy.
What is Extras cover?
Extras cover helps pay for a range of healthcare services that aren't typically covered by Medicare. Depending on your level of cover, this can include services such as dental, optical, physiotherapy, chiropractic treatment, osteopathy, remedial massage and more.
One of the many benefits of Extras cover is it can help eligible members claim back a portion of the cost of covered services, up to their annual limits and subject to policy conditions*. This way you get more money in your back pocket.
Other benefits can include:
- More affordable opportunity to try a new type of medical care that could provide a solution to some discomfort you may be experiencing.
- A proactive approach towards your health and wellbeing, potentially preventing future health issues from developing.
- Depending on your level of cover, it can cover a wide range of healthcare services, allowing you to access multiple types of treatment under the one policy.
1. Your gym workouts
A great workout can lift your whole day. String enough of them together, and they can change your life. Regular exercise offers a range of health benefits1. It can help:
- improve your mood
- strengthen your bones
- lower your blood pressure, and
- reduce your risk of a range of health conditions.
The above may be no surprise. What is perhaps surprising though, is that those pesky gyms fees – which can add up – may be covered with AAMI Everyday Active Extras and AAMI Premium Extras.
Eligible members^ whose doctor recommends a health management program may be able to claim benefits for services such as gym attendance and personal training*.
2. Your visit to the osteopath or chiropractor
Some people visit an osteopath or chiropractor after an injury or when they're experiencing discomfort, while others include these services as part of their broader wellbeing routine.
Chiropractors2 focus on conditions affecting the muscles, joints and bones and may also provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle advice.
Osteopaths3 use techniques such as manipulation and massage and can offer guidance around injury prevention, pain management and rehabilitation programs.
Whatever your reason for visiting, all AAMI Health Insurance Extras products pay a benefit for eligible osteopathy and chiropractic appointments*.
3. Your preventative dental care
Preventative dental care can help maintain healthy teeth and gums while reducing the likelihood of more complex dental treatment in the future.
All AAMI Health Insurance covers include preventative dental benefits, and mid and top level Extras products offer unlimited preventative dental cover*.
By attending regular check-ups, your dentist may be able to identify concerns early and provide advice tailored to your oral health needs. Preventative treatments can also help support better long-term dental health and give you greater confidence in your smile.
4. Your remedial massage
If you've experienced the benefits4 of a remedial massage, you'll understand why it's a popular Extras claim.
Remedial massage may help with a range of musculoskeletal concerns and is often used to assist with muscle tension, recovery and general wellbeing.
Remedial massage* is included under AAMI Health Insurance's natural therapies benefits and is available on selected mid to top level Extras cover.
So, if you've been putting off booking an appointment, it may be worth checking whether you're eligible to claim.

To help avoid surprises when making a claim, it's worth checking a few details before booking your next service:
- Check your annual limits.
