What's covered
AAMI Business Insurance for handymen can offer cover for common risks to your business, such as:
- Public & Products Liability (injury) – for example, someone who isn’t an employee is injured when they fall over your tools accidentally left on the ground.
- Public & Products Liability (damage) – for example, damage is caused to a customer’s property from the falling bookshelf you installed.
- Portable & Valuable Items – for example, your cordless power drill accidentally drops from a ladder and breaks.
- Tax Probe – for example, your business is audited for GST, and you need to pay your accountant to respond.
- Commercial Motor – for example, your work ute is damaged by hail while you’re driving to a client’s home for a repair job.
What’s not covered
- Dissatisfied customer – for example, a client complains that the shelving you installed isn’t level and demands you fix it or provide a refund.
- Unlocked vehicle – for example, you leave your vehicle unlocked and someone steals your toolbox.
- Wear and tear – for example, your belt sander starts losing power after months of heavy use on multiple jobs.
- Workers Compensation – for example, a team member strains their shoulder while lifting a heavy toolbox. This would typically be covered under Workers Compensation Insurance.
Cover for legal liability if your business or products cause personal injury to someone else (who isn’t an employee) or damage to their property. Depending on your occupation, you can select a limit of up to $5 million, $10 million or $20 million.
We call this Portable and Valuable Items cover. This is to cover the business equipment you carry with you while you work, like a lawnmower or leaf blower. Items valued under $2,500 don’t need to be specified on your policy.
Choose from three levels of cover for each vehicle you insure: Comprehensive, Legal Liability only, or Legal Liability, Fire and Theft.
Cover for professional fees incurred due to a tax audit by the Australian Taxation Office, or a State or Territory department or agency.
