CTP or Greenslip

More about CTP

CTP insurance covers you for injuries you cause to other people in a Motor Vehicle accident.

Compulsory Third Party (CTP) is insurance attached to the registration of your vehicle, which provides protection to the at fault driver, against compensation claims from people injured in a motor vehicle accident.

Remember that CTP doesn't cover damage to your vehicle, other vehicles, or property. That’s where you’ll need either Third Party Property or Comprehensive Car Insurance.

More about CTP
Do you need CTP?

CTP is compulsory by law. In most states, it’s included in your car registration, but in NSW you need to buy it separately.

Why Car Insurance is important

If you’re like most Aussies, your car is likely to be what gets you from A to B comfortably. Driving means different things to different people — independence, convenience, routine, or a chance to explore. So, whether you drive a family SUV, well-loved Ute or sleek sports car, you’re going to want to feel protected. Depending on your level of cover, your Car Insurance is there to protect not only your car, but the drivers involved too.

At AAMI, we understand how important it is to get the right Car Insurance. That’s why we’ve provided an introduction to the types of Car Insurance we offer below. If you’re still not sure which one is best for you, we also provide more information on each type and a detailed comparison table to help you make the right choice.

Frequently asked questions

AAMI Lucky Club offers unique experiences exclusive to our customers. Access to shows, events and attractions with a little something extra – for you to enjoy with family and friends. That’s not very insurancey.

Write off

We consider your car a write off when:

  • It’s stolen and unrecovered after 14 days; or
  • We decide it's uneconomical, impractical or unsafe to repair.

We also refer to this as ‘total loss’.

New car if less than 2 years old

If your car’s a total loss, we’ll cover the cost to replace it with a new car that’s the same or similar make and model if:

  • your car is less than 2 years old
  • you’re the first registered owner

This is a just summary. For full details check the PDS (Product Disclosure Statement). It’s dry, we know, but it’s essential reading

Amount Covered

How much your vehicle's insured for.

It’s the maximum amount we’ll pay for loss or damage to your vehicle caused by an insured incident.  The amount is shown on your certificate of insurance and includes GST.

Modifications and accessories

Modifications are alterations made to your vehicle that change its original manufacturer's standard construction or performance - such as modified suspension.

Accessories are things that are added to your vehicle for convenience or attractiveness - such as tinted windows in a car - that don't change its original manufacturer's standard construction or performance.

AAMI car policies automatically include cover for modifications and accessories up to the amount your vehicle's covered for. There's no need to list them on your policy, just make sure the amount you cover your car for is enough to also cover the value of all the insured accessories and modifications.
