What we can cover

Whether you own a clothing store, a gift shop, or you’re a mobile florist, Public & Products Liability Insurance (available under an AAMI Business Insurance policy) can provide cover for common third party injury and property damage risks:

  • A shelf falls over and injures one of your customers.
  • An electrical product you sell to a customer causes a fire in their home.
  • A pair of shoes sold in your shop has a loose sole, causing the customer to fall and injure themselves. A skincare product causes a rash, and the customer blames your business for a lack of proper labelling.
  • A customer injures themselves after slipping on a spill that wasn’t cleaned up in your store.

What’s not covered

  • Workers Compensation – for example, your employee is injured in your café. This would typically be covered under Workers Compensation Insurance.
  • Professional Indemnity – for example, your customer is dissatisfied with an item they purchased and demand a refund.
  • Product recalls – for example, you need to replace a recalled item in a clients’ home at your own cost.
  • Cyber incidents and cyber acts – for example, a cyber-attack results in stolen customer data and a client demands compensation.
  • Damage to your own property – for example, you accidentally drop and damage a point of sale terminal. More information on damage to your own property
