Introducing the new AAMI Caravan Insurance Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for policies renewing on or after 15 December 2020. The PDS is an important legal document that contains details of the product you purchase so you need to read it carefully.

Here at AAMI, we want to provide clarity and certainty in your time of need. We’ve changed the layout of the PDS to help make it easier to understand. And we have also made other changes to the policy – we have added and changed exclusions and conditions.

Below are some examples of things we have changed:

  • Your responsibilities
  • Excess (when and how to pay)
  • Excess (when an excess will be waived)
  • Things we don’t cover
  • How your claims will be settled
  • Contribution to repairs
  • We own the caravan, annexe or contents salvage
  • Joint policyholders
  • Conduct of others (new section in your PDS)
  • New caravan after a total loss

For full details, please refer to your PDS.

The purpose of this page is to advise you of the various changes that we have made to our AAMI Caravan Insurance Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

SUMMARY OF COVER TABLE

New ‘Summary of cover’ table including covers, additional covers and optional covers to assist you with navigating the new format.

NEW CARAVAN AFTER A TOTAL LOSS FOR CARAVANS LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD

The additional cover has been updated to provide you with cash settlement of the amount covered shown on your certificate of insurance (less applicable deductions) if you choose not to accept the replacement caravan offered, or we cannot supply a similar caravan.

CHANGE WHEN THERE ARE JOINT POLICYHOLDERS

During the period of insurance, we might ask all joint policyholders first before we action a request or direction in relation to your policy (e.g. before we cancel your policy, reduce your cover or remove another policyholder). This way we can help protect the interests of all policyholders.

NEW SECTION - CONDUCT OF OTHERS

When we consider a claim, we will have regard to prejudice you have suffered due to conduct of others and may meet the claim when we are not legally required to do so.

OUR RIGHT TO RECOVER FROM THOSE WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE

To promote transparency, we have added examples of the assistance that may be required from you if we take action against a party for the recovery of your loss.

This includes specifying types of assistance we will pay for and covering costs for Insured’s out of pocket expenses for attending court up to $250 per claim.

CONTRIBUTION TO REPAIRS

We have clarified that we may ask you to contribute to repairs where we are unable to carry out accepted repairs due to pre-existing damage to your caravan. Examples of instances where we will ask you to pay the cost of repairing pre-existing damage so that repairs covered by your policy can be carried out safely include neglect, wear and tear, weathering, rust, mould, mildew or corrosion. If you do not want to pay these amounts, we will pay you the amount of the assessed quote from our preferred repairer for the repairs directly related to the accepted claim.

TOWING A DAMAGED CARAVAN

We have updated the wording of ‘Towing a damaged caravan’ in ‘Things we don’t cover’. We now provide an example of when you might tow your caravan after it’s been damaged in an incident to prevent further loss or damage: towing your caravan  from a busy motorway.

VETERINARY EXPENSES

An excess free claim for veterinary expenses for a pet travelling or living with you in your caravan that is hit by a vehicle and injured may be made up to $500 for any one incident.

AFTER CLAIMS EXPENSES

If your caravan is stolen or damaged in an incident covered by your policy, we also cover additional expenses up to a total of $500 for any one incident, e.g.:

  • costs for meals if you were living in your caravan at the time of the incident and need to be moved to temporary accommodation;
  • food spoilage;
  • supplementary living expenses.

CANCELLATION FEE - REMOVED

If you decide to cancel your insurance cover with AAMI, you will no longer be charged a cancellation fee.

DEDUCTIONS FROM YOUR TOTAL LOSS CLAIM

AAMI has removed the requirement for you to pay the deductions upfront before we will provide a new caravan.

IF WE DON'T AUTHORISE REPAIRS

When we authorise repairs for the amount of the assessed quote from your repairer but you request a cash settlement, we will pay you the amount of the assessed quote. If we pay the amount of the assessed quote we don’t authorised repairs. You will not be entitled to the lifetime guarantee on repairs that we do not authorise.
