What is CTP?

Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTP) is attached to the registration of your vehicle, and provides protection to the at-fault driver against compensation claims from people injured in a motor vehicle accident. In the ACT, CTP is purchased when you register your car and is included in your total registration fee paid to Access Canberra.

CTP in the ACT is changing from 1 February 2020. This will affect the support available to anyone injured in a motor vehicle accident. You don’t need to do anything to update your cover when the new scheme comes into effect. To learn more, you can visit the Motor Accident Injuries Commission website or view our Motor Accident Injuries scheme webpage.

What am I covered for?

  • CTP covers injuries you may cause to other people in a motor vehicle accident.

  • CTP covers injuries to road users including other drivers, passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, motorbike riders and pillion passengers.

  • CTP does not cover damage to your vehicle, other vehicles or property. Visit Car Insurance for more information.

To view the current CTP premiums, visit the ACT Treasury webpage.
