How does the research project work?
AAMI Driver Rewards will gather information relating to your driving behaviours and provide you with a score based on a series of criteria (see further information about AAMI Driver Rewards). The research will run for a period of six months.
Every two months during the research, you’ll be given an average score for that two-month period, which may qualify you for a reward.
After the end of the research period, you can redeem a gift card for the total value of the rewards you accrued over the research period.
Data and research
How we collect, use and share your personal information is set out in the AAMI General Insurance Privacy Statements and the Suncorp Group Privacy Policy. For example, the data gathered relating to your driving behaviours may be disclosed if such disclosure is necessary for an enforcement activity or is required by law, for example in response to a subpoena.
Please note that the research is only available to AAMI customers holding a car insurance policy (Comprehensive Car or Third Party Property), so please register below only if you meet this condition.
Research data gathered and data analytics will not be used to make any decisions about an insurance policy you hold with us (including your premium) or any claims you may make.

How do the rewards work?
AAMI Driver Rewards score | Reward value |
---|---|
85-90 | $10 |
91-95 | $20 |
96-100 | $35 |
For example:
- A driver obtains an average score of 86 over months one and two, the reward value would be $10.
- They then obtain an average score of 92 over months three and four, the reward value would be $20.
- Finally, they obtain an average score of 97 over months five and six, the reward value would be $35.
Following the end of the research period, the driver in this example will be able to redeem a gift card to the value of $65. It’s simple!
If you achieve a score of 96-100 for all three of the two-month periods, you will be able to redeem a gift card to the total value of $105.

Frequently asked questions
AAMI, with the support of State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA), is conducting research focused on harnessing telematics technology with young drivers in NSW to create safer roads.
For this research we are looking for drivers aged 18-30, in NSW to use the AAMI smartphone app feature called AAMI Driver Rewards (ADR). The app tracks driving behaviours and provides a score between 40 to 100 based on five criteria – speeding, acceleration, cornering, braking and phone use. Every two months we will reward individuals who have scored an average of 85 or above for that two-month period.
No, once you have registered with AAMI Driver Rewards and enabled all the necessary permissions your trips will be recorded automatically.
State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) regulates motor accidents CTP insurance, workers compensation insurance and the home building compensation scheme in NSW.
We ask that you fill out a registration form and register for AAMI Driver Rewards within the AAMI App. If you’re selected to participate, you will be notified by email. Your driving data collected over the 6-month research period will be used for the research analysis.
To be eligible to participate you must:
- hold an AAMI Motor Comprehensive Car or Third Party Property Car insurance policy
- be located in NSW
- be over 18 years old and under the age of 30
- download and enable AAMI Driver Rewards via the AAMI App
The AAMI Driver Rewards App is able to be used by both iPhone and Android users.
Every 2 months, you'll be given an average AAMI Driver Rewards score for that two-month period.
The reward value you can earn based on your average AAMI Driver Rewards score at each 2-month interval is shown in the below table.
You can redeem a gift card for the total reward amount you have earned at the end of the 6-month period.
AAMI Driver Rewards score | Reward value |
---|---|
85-90 | $10 |
91-95 | $20 |
96-100 | $35 |
The maximum amount you could get from participating over the 6 months is $105 depending on your driving score.
After the research comes to an end, you will receive a final email with the instructions to redeem your reward as a gift card issued by GiftPay. Once the eGift Card is sent to you, you will have 3 months to select a retailer to receive a retailer’s gift card. You will be able select a retailer from the following: Woolworth, Coles, Myer, David Jones, JB HI FI or Rebel Sport. These retailers will have specific conditions related to their gift cards, including a limited period of validity, so please check these when making your selection.
No there are no requirements around how often you drive.
Your driving score will take into account any trip you take even if these trips are in other vehicles, as long as you have your phone with you and the app enabled. Its about your behaviour regardless of the vehicle you are driving.
No, location is tracked only under specific conditions.
AAMI Driver Rewards begins tracking location information once your smartphone detects a change from your motion and fitness activity settings, to determine whether a trip is in progress. Once it confirms a trip has begun, your location is recorded for the duration of the drive.
Over time, the app learns your driving behaviours and common routes, allowing it to determine whether you were a driver or a passenger for a given trip. To help the app with this process, we recommend that you review and update your trip classifications for your first ten or fifteen trips, so the app learns whether you are a driver or passenger, or in another mode of transport.
To classify your status, navigate to the Trips screen, tap on a given trip, then tap the Driver icon in the upper right corner. You will be able to choose from a series of options. Your scores should be recalculated within a short period.
The app collects and analyses your driving data, then provides an overall driving score out of 100 based on a series of criteria. For each of the criteria below, a specific sub score is also provided.
- Phone Distraction: Using the phone in your hand while the vehicle is in motion.
- Hard Braking: A sudden reduction in speed.
- Speeding: Driving over a safe speed for a given road.
- Hard Acceleration: A sudden increase in speed.
- Cornering: Turning or swerving harshly.
You will be able to check your driving score in the AAMI App any time you like. The score displayed in the App is based on your trips over the most recent two weeks.
However, to determine the reward you are entitled to under this research, we will look at your average AAMI Driver Rewards score calculated over a two-month period. This average score will not be shown on the App, but will be notified to you via email at the 2 month, 4 month and 6 month mark of the research period.
If you no longer want to be involved in the Research, that's okay with us. We'll miss you, but you don’t have to stick around if you don’t want to.
