Motor burnout

COVERED

With some things around your home, when they’re working, you probably don’t notice them. But when they aren’t, they can have quite an impact. Motor burnout is generally high on the list. That’s why knowing if and when you’re insured for motor burnout under AAMI Home Building Insurance can be important.

What's covered

We cover the burning out or fusing of any electric motors that happens in the period of insurance in household equipment or appliances that are part of the building. And where the motor is less than 7 years old.

Coverage includes the reasonable cost to repair or replace things like the electric motor or compressor containing the motor, or a swimming pool water pump. There are other items included in this coverage, which you can learn more about in the Product Disclosure Statement.

What’s great is that you can make a claim under this additional cover independently of a claim for loss or damage to the building.

We will engage a member of our supplier network to review your quote and/or inspect the motor. This way, they can determine if it can be repaired or replaced at a reasonable cost.

For more information on when we will repair or replace the motor, or replace the whole appliance, or pay you for the reasonable cost of repair or replacement, refer to the Product Disclosure Statement.

What’s not covered

There are some instances where you won’t be covered. For example, we will not cover the cost of extracting or reinstalling a submersible pump or any amount you can recover under a manufacturer’s guarantee or warranty.

You can learn more about this coverage and other exclusions in the PDS.
