OPTIONAL COVERS
Add optional coverage for Comprehensive policies
Windscreen excess waiver
With this optional cover, you won’t have to pay the basic excess for the first claim you make in any period of insurance for your vehicle’s broken windscreen or window glass. The basic excess will apply for subsequent claims.
This only applies to cars, utes, 4WDs or vans with a carrying capacity of less than 2 tonnes.
Rental vehicle after accident
If your vehicle can’t be driven or needs repair after an event (other than theft) that’s covered under your policy, we’ll pay the cost of hiring a similar replacement vehicle (subject to availability). The most we’ll pay for any one event is $1,500.
This only applies to cars, utes, 4WDs or vans with a carrying capacity of less than 2 tonnes.
Protected No Claim Bonus
With this optional cover, a claim that would otherwise affect your no claim bonus will not do so – provided you haven’t made a previous claim within the same period of insurance for the same vehicle.
Damage to towed vehicles
If your vehicle is a registered tow truck, we can cover loss or damage – caused by an event we cover under the policy – to any vehicle being towed, retrieved or carried by your vehicle. The most we will pay for any one event is $150,000.
This is just a summary – limits, conditions and exclusions apply, so please refer to the PDS for more info.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Commercial Motor Insurance?
AAMI Commercial Motor Insurance is designed to provide cover for a range of vehicles used for business purposes, including:
- cars, utes and 4WDs
- industrial vehicles like bobcats, mini loaders, forklifts and ride-on mowers
- trailers, including pet grooming trailers and towed woodchippers, and
- trucks with a carrying capacity of up to 5 tonnes.
Whether you have a single or multiple work vehicles, this insurance can help protect you against financial loss from accidents, damage, theft, or liability while using your vehicle for work.
Do I need Commercial Motor Insurance for my business?
If you use your vehicle for business – such as transporting tools, equipment, goods, or employees – you may want to consider Commercial Motor Insurance. This includes tradies, mobile food vans, domestic cleaners and photographers.
Even if you’re using your personal vehicle for business use – like transporting tools or visiting job sites – you may need to consider a commercial policy, as standard personal car insurance may not cover work-related use.
What’s the difference between personal and commercial motor insurance?
Personal motor insurance is designed to provide cover for damage and legal liability during private use – like commuting or recreational driving. It usually excludes cover for business activities.
Commercial motor insurance, on the other hand, caters for business use and typically includes:
- coverage for incidents which happen at a work-site
- broader range of vehicles which can be covered by the policy
- cover for employees driving the vehicle, and
- higher liability limits.
Using a vehicle for business purposes under a personal policy could result in denied claims.
Can I cover multiple vehicles under one policy?
Yes, you can add multiple business vehicles you own under one policy.
What is covered by a Commercial Motor Insurance policy?
This will depend on the level of cover selected for the vehicle under your AAMI Commercial Motor Insurance policy. Not all levels of cover are available for all types of vehicles.
A Comprehensive policy provides the highest level of cover. It includes coverage for:
- accidental loss or damage to your vehicle
- theft and attempted theft
- fire, storm and flood damage, and
- legal liability for damage caused by your vehicle to other people’s vehicle or property.
A Fire, Theft & Legal Liability policy provides cover for:
- fire and theft damage to your vehicle
- legal liability for damage caused by your vehicle to other people’s vehicle or property, and
- limited cover for damage to your vehicle caused by uninsured drivers up to $5,000 or market value (whichever is less). You must show the collision was the fault of the uninsured driver and give us the at-fault person’s name, address and vehicle rego number.
A Legal Liability policy is the most basic level of cover. It includes coverage for:
- legal liability for damage caused by your vehicle to other people’s vehicle or property, and
- limited cover for damage to your vehicle caused by uninsured drivers, up to $5,000 or market value (whichever is less). You must show the collision was the fault of the uninsured driver and give us the at-fault person’s name, address and vehicle rego number.
