At AAMI we cover all legal modifications and accessories fitted to your car. There’s usually no need to list them on your policy. If you choose to insure for an amount covered, just ensure the amount you cover your car for is enough to also include the value of the insured accessories and modifications. If you choose to insure for market value (and we agree), the value of all insured accessories and modifications will be included within your vehicles market value, which we determine at claim time.

Do I need Comprehensive Car Insurance?
You should consider your own circumstances and the type of cover you may need. Comprehensive Car Insurance covers damage to your own car from a range of events, while Third Party Property Damage is designed to only cover your liability for damage you cause to other people’s vehicle or property. Coverage for damage to your car from fire and theft can be added to Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance, but other events would still not be covered. Please read the PDS for more information.**
AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance
Frequently asked questions
Comprehensive Car Insurance is just that — comprehensive. It’ll provide you with coverage for a range of insured events such as accidents and theft, as well as weather events like hail, fire and storms. If you’re involved in an accident, your car and property and the other person’s car and property are covered, even if you’re at fault. Third Party Car Insurance, on the other hand, will only cover you for damage you cause to someone else’s vehicle and property. For more info on what is and isn’t covered, be sure to read the Product Disclosure Statement.
AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance covers you for accidental loss or damage in the event of fire, theft or attempted theft. For more info on what is and isn’t covered, check the PDS.
Yes, AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance does cover windscreen replacement as standard, but you will need to pay an excess if you claim. You can choose to add Windscreen and Window Glass Cover as an Optional Cover that you pay extra for. If you do, when the only damage to your car is to the windscreen, window glass or sun roof, we cover the repair or replacement cost without you having to pay an excess. One excess free claim only in the period of insurance.
Yep! AAMI Roadside Assist can be added to any AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance policy. It offers unlimited 24/7 roadside callouts and can help with things like flat batteries, lost keys, and more. Terms and conditions apply.
If you have Comprehensive Car Insurance and your car is assessed to be a total loss or a 'write off' from an incident covered by your policy, then instead of being repaired, the amount your car is covered for will be given as a cash payout (less any deductions).
If your car is less than 2 years old, and you're the first registered owner, we'll replace it with a new car of the same make, model and series (if available within 90 days), or similar if not available. If you choose not to accept the replacement car, or where an agreement cannot be reached between us on a replacement car, or a replacement car cannot be supplied, we will pay you the amount covered on your certificate of insurance (less any deductions). See the PDS for full details.
If you’d like to ensure that an additional driver is covered, you should list them on your policy. If someone who isn’t listed is driving your car and an incident occurs, you may have to pay a higher excess, or you may have your claims denied.
Learner drivers are an exception. If the person supervising them is listed on the policy, the learner driver doesn't need to be. An additional age or inexperienced driver excess may apply though, in the event of a claim.
People with international licences also need to be listed on the policy if they're going to be driving your car regularly. As long as their licence is recognised by the relevant state or territory authority - they can be a listed driver.
AAMI flexi excess is an additional excess payment you can choose, on top of your standard excess, that will kick in if you ever need to make a claim for which excess is payable. That is, a claim for an incident in which you’re at fault or can't provide the details of an at-fault driver.
Agreeing to a flexi premium means you'll have to pay a bit more at claim time, but it also means that your premium payments will be lower.
If you’re using your car less because you’re self-isolating, there are changes you can make to your policy that may reduce your premium. This includes increasing your standard excess if your policy is up for renewal, changing the average kilometres driven listed on your policy. You can do this easily via your My Account by following this step-by-step guide, or by calling 13 22 44.
Each of AAMI’s insurance products utilise a five-stage product lifecycle (Design, Delivery, Review, Enhance/Modify and Decommission). This approach allows us to put you, the customer, at the centre of our product development and distribution.
* Safe Driver Rewards credit is a percentage of the Comprehensive Car Insurance rated premium paid the previous year and is applied as a credit to next year’s rated premium. Maximum 15% credit is for drivers who don’t make a claim on their Comprehensive Car Insurance policy that impacts their Safe Driver Rewards status for 10 years+.
^ Up to 10% discount off the rated premium of your AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance when a listed driver under the age of 25 has completed the AAMI Skilled Driver Course. Discount applied until the first renewal on or after the participant turns 25 as long as the participant remains a listed driver on the policy.
