What you need to know

What you need to claim

To help the process please provide the following information when lodging your claim:

  • Your policy number
  • Your contact details
  • Type of claim - fire, theft etc
  • Date, address and details of loss/event
  • Personal details of any other parties involved (if applicable)
  • Photos of the damage or items
  • List of damaged items. We may ask for further details depending on the circumstances of each claim.

It is best to lodge a claim as soon as you can. No repair quotes are required.

Report to the police

Notify the police as soon as possible of any malicious damage, theft or attempted theft or if property is misappropriated or lost. We may ask you to give the Police a list of items stolen or damaged items. Where possible, after notifying the police, keep details of the date reported, name of police officer, police station reported to and the report number.

Notify us

Notify us as soon as possible and give us all known details of the event or a claim against you.

Provide us with any legal document or other communication you receive about a claim, including any legal proceedings brought against you as soon as possible.

Minimise loss

Take all reasonable precautions to minimise or prevent further loss, damage, liability or injury from occurring. For example, if there is a hole in the roof, arrange for it to be covered to prevent further water damage from the rain and if your vehicle is damaged in an accident, when safe to do so, move it off the road and put on your hazard lights.

Retain all damaged property

Retain and preserve all damaged property for inspection by us or our representative before repairs are authorised, unless alterations and repairs are immediately necessary, for safety reasons or to minimise or prevent further loss, damage, liability or injury. For example, do not wash or clean or remove debris from an area damaged by fire unless we have agreed for you to do so.

What you must NOT do when you make a claim

  • admit liability for any loss, damage or injury, or settle or attempt to settle or defend any claim without our prior written consent
  • authorise the repair or replacement of any insured property without our prior written consent (apart from emergency repairs to your vehicle or when reasonably necessary to prevent further loss, damage or injury).

Please refer to the General Claims Conditions and Policy Section Conditions in your PDS
