All AAMI Health Insurance hospital products can help you avoid paying the Medicare Levy Surcharge (MLS). That’s because you’re exempt from paying the MLS if you hold a complying hospital product for the entire financial year.

Lifetime Health Cover (LHC) loading is an Australian Government initiative designed to take some burden off the public healthcare system, by encouraging people to take out private hospital cover earlier in life. You can avoid paying it by taking out hospital cover by 1 July following your 31^st birthday.

Most eligible customers claim the rebate as a reduction to their premium, as it reduces the amount they pay on their Health Insurance. When you apply for your cover with us, let us know which income bracket you fall into and we can apply the corresponding rebate to your policy.

There are 3 options you can choose for how you want to receive a rebate from the Government:

1. A higher amount than you’re entitled to, meaning you may have to pay the difference when you lodge your tax return
2. A lower amount than you’re entitled to, meaning you should see the difference paid back to you at tax return time
3. No upfront rebate, and instead claim your entire entitlement from the Government (if eligible) when you lodge your tax return 

In your Health Insurance tax statement, you’ll find important information to help you complete your tax return, such as the premiums you paid and the amount of rebates you received during the financial year.
