Enhancing your account security with MFA

By  AAMI

Safeguarding your information online is more important than ever. That's why we're making your AAMI account even more secure by adding multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Simple to set up and use, MFA gives you an extra layer of protection against security breaches.

A new partner for your password

Modern technology is capable of testing billions of password combinations per second, so we need stronger security measures than just a password alone. While a strong password is still important, it’s just one part of a safe internet strategy.

What is multi-factor authentication?

MFA is a security measure that’s activated when you sign into an online account. Typically, it involves verifying your identity with at least two of the following methods:

  • Your password (something you know).
  • A one-time code sent to your phone (something you have).
  • Your fingerprint or face scan (something that proves who you are).

This two-step security check means that even if someone discovers your password, they still won’t be able to access your account with that alone. Your data will remain safe and sound (though you’ll want to change your compromised password!).

MFA is now a standard security measure across the internet. You’re probably already using it to log into your bank, your MyGov account, or social media accounts.

Why AAMI is implementing MFA

When you choose AAMI, you’re trusting us with your data, and we’re committed to protecting it.

Every security upgrade we roll out is designed to do two things:

  • Protect your details.
  • Give you confidence that your details are safe.

Your security and privacy are our priorities, and we're committed to protecting them.

Your security, your way

With AAMI, you’re in control of how you set up MFA. If you don’t want to authenticate every single time, no problem. We'll remember your device for 90 days. Just keep in mind you’ll need to verify your identity again:

  • when 90 days are up, or
  • if you’re logging in from somewhere new, like a new browser, phone or laptop.

If you don’t have your phone handy, or you’ve changed your number, don’t worry. You’ll have the option to log in with an email-based one-time password (OTP) instead.

Do I have to use MFA?

While setting up MFA on your account isn’t compulsory, we highly recommend it. Your account contains lots of sensitive information, from your phone number and address to the details of your policies. It’s worth keeping safe.
