Home and Contents Insurance conveniently combines building-only and contents-only insurance. It covers a range of insured events, such as fire, theft or attempted theft, storms and lightning. It offers homeowners repair or replacement of damaged property, as well as the contents inside that property.

What am I covered for?
Covers loss of and damage to your home, garage, shed and their household contents, caused by fire, break-ins and weather events. Includes storm, flood and bushfire. You can get a Home and Contents Insurance quote online, quickly and easily.

Up to $20 million legal liability cover can help you take care of legal and other costs if a visitor suffers injury, death or property damage at your home.

Your Contents

If your stuff is lost or damaged in an insured event, such as a storm, fire or burglary, we'll ensure they're quickly repaired or replaced.
New for old replacement
If you need to replace an item, we'll cover the cost of a new one, regardless of age. We'll replace it with the same type, standard and specification—but not necessarily brand—as yours was when it was new. If your damaged item can't be matched exactly, it will be replaced with something similar.
Cover for spoiled food or medicine
If an insured event causes food or medicine to spoil—for example, if a storm knocks out power to your fridge—we’ll cover the cost, up to $400.
Storage of undamaged contents
If some or all of your contents escape damage from an insured event, but they can't be kept at home—say, if they'll be exposed to the elements during repair work—we'll cover the cost of storing them, up to 10% of your contents sum insured.

Insured Events
These are the things that you'll be able to make a claim for, if they cause loss or damage to your building or contents. Most of them have limits, conditions and exclusions, so make sure you check the policy documents so you know exactly what's covered.
Including water overflowing from things like lakes, rivers, or dams.
That's rain, wind, thunder, that sort of thing. FYI, storm damage is one of our most common claims, so this is a biggie.
Including power surges caused by lightning, will be covered providing a qualified repairer confirms lightning as the cause of loss or damage.
Fire means burning with flames. It includes heat, ash, soot and smoke damage to your home from a neighbouring building burning within 10 metres of the insured address.
These may not be likely, depending on where you live, but you'll be covered just in case.
This also includes attempted theft, if nothing is stolen but the attempt causes damage that needs repairing.
Good to know for those driveway cricket games. FYI, this covers things like fixed glass in windows, skylights, and permanently fixed mirrors.
This refers to liquid leaking, overflowing or bursting from things like appliances, fixed pipes, drains, and waterbeds
This refers to damage caused by impact from falling tree branches, power poles or TV antennas.
Not your pets, though. This refers to damage caused by animals (not insects, vermin or rodents) who aren’t supposed to be there.
We cover the loss or damage caused by an explosion but we don’t cover the cost of replacing or repairing the tank or container that exploded.
An example would be damage caused by a violent crowd moving down your street.
This includes things like vandals damaging your letterbox or tagging the building with graffiti.
We do not insure you for bushfire, storm, flood or tsunami in the first 72 hours of your policy. Very limited exceptions apply. Read the PDS for more detail

AAMI Home & Contents Insurance
Your mobile phone is a contents item which is covered at the home for insured events. If you want to cover your mobile phone for accidental loss or damage at home and away from home, you will need extra cover for specified portable valuables. This is an optional cover you can choose.
If you insure your phone as a specified portable valuable and nominate its value your phone will be covered up to that amount for accidental loss or damage anywhere in Australia or New Zealand. The excess for portable valuables is $100 per claim.
Yep! Both AAMI Home Insurance and AAMI Contents Insurance — and, of course, our great value combined Home and Contents Insurance — include cover for damage caused by floods.
For policy purposes, ‘flood’ is defined as the covering of normally dry land by water that has escaped or been released from:
Actions or movements of the sea and storm surge are not covered (unless storm surge damage occurs at the same time as damage caused by storm). Other exclusions apply. Check out the PDS for details.
If you've taken out a home loan to purchase your property, your provider may insist on adequate home insurance as a condition of the loan. If you're in this situation, you should check any requirements with your lender.
If you own a property that shares walls or property, such as an apartment or townhouse, you can consider Strata Insurance. Strata Insurance provides cover for damage caused by insured events to buildings with shared property, as well as shared areas like driveways and stairways. It can provide cover for up to 10 buildings on the same block.

We suggest insuring your contents for the amount you think it will cost to repair or replace them, in case you ever need to. The amount you choose is known as your sum insured and, once you've taken out your policy, it will be listed on your certificate of insurance.
While specifying a lower sum insured may save you a few bucks on your premium, it could leave you out of pocket if you ever need to make a claim.
It can be difficult to estimate your sum insured, so we offer a Contents Sum Insured Calculator that can help you.
AAMI Home and Contents Insurance includes cover for accidental breakage of glass, as long as the glass is permanently fixed to your building. For example, this would include windows, skylights and permanently fixed mirrors. For this cover to apply, the breakage would need to extend all the way through the glass, so it doesn’t cover chips and scratches.
You can also cover accidental damage to your portable items by taking out our optional portable valuables cover.
Other types of accidental damage are not covered.
Specified contents items are content items that you list individually on your policy that are only insured while at your home. These are usually valuable items, such as artworks and antiques, for which the policy limits that would otherwise apply are inadequate.
Portable valuables are those items that are likely to leave the house with you on a frequent basis, such as jewellery, watches and smartphones. Unless you take out extra cover for these sorts of items, they won’t be covered by your policy if they're lost or damaged while outside of your home.
The exact date on which responsibility for property damage passes from seller to buyer varies depending on which state you're in, and what terms are stipulated in any given contract.
If the risk of damage to the property passes to you before the property settlement, consider arranging home insurance as soon as you're able.
Loss or damage to jewellery caused by an insured event is covered by AAMI Contents Insurance, if the loss or damage occurs at the insured address. A limit of $1,000 per item applies. However, you can ask us to increase this limit to a specific value, for an extra premium.
If you want to ensure that your ring is insured for accidental loss or damage while you're away from home, you can buy extra cover for portable valuables, for an extra premium. If you want to insure your ring for more than $1000, you will need to tell us about your ring and insure it as an extra cover specified item.

High Value/Risk Items
If you have a high-value (over $1,000) or high-risk item, you need to specify it to cover its full value, as such items are not necessarily included as unspecified portable items. Items that need to be specified include:
Portable Items
Unspecified Portable Items is an optional protection for accidental loss or damage to personal valuables normally carried with you away from home (anywhere in Australia and New Zealand). This can cover items such as such as:

*Sporting equipment is covered when not being used, except for bicycles which are covered if not racing or pace-making.
Tenant Protection
Protect your property against unpaid rent up to $6,000, theft by your tenants and their guests to the value of your contents sum insured, up to $20,000 and malicious damage by your tenants and their guests up to $30,000. We will also replace locks if your tenant doesn’t return the keys up to $800.
Loss of rent
If an insured event occurs and your property is unliveable as a result, we’ll pay the weekly rental amount for up to 52 weeks or $25,000, whichever is less.
Contents damage or loss up to your chosen amount
Covers loss of, or damage to, the things in your home, garage and/or shed after an insured event. This can include electronics, furniture, clothing and more. You can also add Portable Valuables Cover for items you often take outside the home, such as a laptop computer.
Contents damage or loss
Up to $25,000 for damage to, or loss of, the contents of your home caused by fire or break-ins.
Temporary accommodation
If your home is deemed unliveable following an insured event, we offer cover for the reasonable costs of temporary accommodation for the time it will take to repair or rebuild your home. The most we’ll pay is up to 4 weeks in short term accommodation, such as a hotel, and then up to another 48 weeks in residential accommodation if necessary. We’ll also cover the cost of redirecting mail to the temporary address and connecting utilities. Not available with Fire & Theft Contents Insurance.
Office bearer’s liability
Covers up to $1 million for office bearers or committee members if a claim is made against them for a wrongful act.
Back in Business
Offers cover for contents shared between multiples strata properties, such as washing machines, gardening equipment and shared gym equipment that doesn't belong to a unit owner or tenant, covered up to a chosen Sum Insured.
Glass & signs
This provides cover for loss of, or damage to, glass windows, signs and showcases at your business premises.
Public Liability
Public Liability offers cover for your costs if you are found to be legally responsible for personal injury to a third party, or damage to their property.
Tax Probe
Also known as Tax Audit, this provides cover for the professional and accountant’s fees incurred by you in connection with an audit of your business’ financial or tax affairs by the ATO, or by a Commonwealth, State or Territory department, body or agency.
