Unlimited medical expenses

We will pay unlimited medical expenses if you’re injured or become ill while travelling overseas.

This also includes travel and accommodation for another person to travel to where you are and either stay with you or escort you home based on the advice of the medical practitioner.

Lost, damaged or stolen baggage

We cover baggage, personal effects or travel documents that are lost, stolen or damaged beyond repair during your trip. This could include items such as your

  • Suitcase or travel bag
  • Handbag
  • Jewellery
  • Mobile phone
  • Digital camera
  • Passport^

The loss, damage or theft of baggage and personal effects is covered up to a total policy limit of $6,000 for a single-person policy^. Per item sub-limits also apply to claims for different types of baggage and personal effects. For example, single general items, like a handbag or item of jewellery, are limited to $700 under a single-person policy.

Cancellation cover

We will cover reasonable cancellation costs and additional travel and accommodation required for travel interruptions, delays due to replacing a lost passport, or if you are directed into quarantine.

Travel interruptions include a strike, riot, civil commotion, natural disaster, or severe weather conditions.

Free extended period of cover

If you are unable to return to home to Australia within because the overseas treating medical practitioner advises you in writing to extend your stay because of a medical condition, we will extend the period of cover.

Cover for singles, couples or families

AAMI travel insurance is for permanent Australian residents aged between 18 and 65. Children under 18 years old can be added to an accompanying adult’s policy.

The Single policy covers 1 adult and up to 1 child.
The Multi-person policy covers up to 2 adults and 8 children.

What does travel insurance cover?

Travel insurance covers you against some of the things that can go wrong after you’ve booked an overseas holiday. It can help cover the costs associated with things like delays or cancellations outside of your control, medical expenses, and baggage that’s lost, stolen or damaged.
