AAMI and VICSES launch 15-to-Float campaign

Did you know just 15 centimetres of water - the height of an average pen - could be enough for your car to float?

In the past year alone, the Victorian State Emergency Services (VICSES) have responded to over 120 calls from drivers stuck in floodwater, showing it doesn’t take much for a car to become unstable, lose traction or even wash away.

AAMI is proud to support the latest initiative from the VICSES – the 15-to-Float campaign – which aims to educate the community, and assist people to find a car's 'float point'.

Since 2002, AAMI has been Principal Partner of VICSES, the control agency during emergency responses to floods, storms, landslides, earthquakes and tsunamis in Victoria and the largest provider of road rescue in the state.

Contributing more than $7 million to the VICSES in the 15 years since the partnership began, AAMI supports resilience and protection programs, provides essential equipment to SES units across the state and helps raise community awareness to help keep all Victorians safe during emergencies.

VICSES Deputy Chief Officer Operations – Readiness Tim Wiebusch said AAMI’s continued support provides valuable equipment for SES volunteers and ultimately saves lives.

"As a volunteer-based organisation, VICSES relies on AAMI’s valuable support to enable us to continue to provide emergency assistance to our communities 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"In fact, in the past year, AAMI has provided more than 170 vital pieces of equipment including chainsaws, road rescue equipment and flashing traffic beacons to assist the VICSES in safeguarding communities against natural disasters. We simply couldn’t continue to make the impact we do without them," he said.
