AAMI has made it easy for you to update most of your policy details online, including your car registration, how you use your car, additional drivers, your contact information, and more.

Simply log in to your AAMI account and click the ‘My policy list’ link. This will take you to a list of your AAMI policies, where you can click on the link to ‘Update my policy’.

Changing the address on your car insurance is easy and can be done completely online. Simply log in to your AAMI account, select ‘My policy list’ then ‘Update my policy’, and choose ‘Contact details’ under the ‘My personal details’ heading.

You can also change the address for where your car is regularly parked. You can find this within the same ‘Update my policy’ option, by selecting ‘Parking address’ and then ‘Change parking address’.

Don’t stress – there’s no need to update your policy to include a learner driver. They’re automatically covered under your insurance policy, as long as there’s an insured, licensed driver in the front passenger seat with them when they’re driving.

If a learner is driving at the time of an incident, an inexperienced driver or age excess of $400 will apply.

If you want for someone other than yourself (the policy holder) to be able to make changes to your car insurance policy, you’ll need to list them as a nominated representative. You can do that easily by calling us on 13 22 44.

You can also email us at aami@aami.com.au, although response time is generally longer, so if it’s urgent it’s better to call. In your email, include the following

• Your full name (first and last name)
• Your date of birth
• Your full address
• The full name, date of birth, and phone number of the person you want to add as your nominated representative

If the details of your car finance have changed, you can update them easily online.

Simply log in to your AAMI account, select your policy from the list of policies available then choose the ‘Update policy’ option. Select ‘Car finance’ under the ‘Update my policy’ heading to update your car finance details.

If your policy is due for renewal, you can still update your details through your online account. Once logged in, select your policy up for renewal and then choose the ‘Renew Policy’ option. From there, update ‘vehicle finance’ under the ‘Your Policy Details’ heading.

To make your life easier, AAMI offers several flexible ways to pay for your car insurance. This includes online with your debit or credit card, using BPAY, over the phone, and even at your nearest Australian Post Office. Check out all your options for paying your car insurance policy.

If you’re driving substantially less than what you stated on your policy, say because you’re working and schooling from home, you may be able to potentially reduce your premium. Please get in touch with us to discuss your options or click the chat icon to speak to someone online. Once you start driving more again, it’s important to update your policy to reflect these changes.

Both Comprehensive and Third Party Property Damage include the following:

• Legal liability cover of up to $20 million, helping you cover repair and/or replacement costs if you damage someone else’s car or property while behind the wheel.
• Cover for loss or damage to your own car caused by fire, theft or attempted theft (this is an optional cover with Third Party Property Damage policies).
• 24/7 claims.
• Access to the AAMI App, making it easy to check and update policy info, track claims, and more.

Comprehensive policies also include:

• Cover for loss of, or damage to, your own car in insured events like collisions.
• New for old replacement if your car is stolen or written off for cars less than 2 years old.
• Lifetime repair guarantee on repairs we authorise.
• Safe Driver Rewards, offering a credit towards your premiums if you don’t claim.^{^}

And, for an additional premium, offer access to optional covers such as:

• AAMI Roadside Assist, offering 24/7 callouts for help with things like breakdowns, flat tyres, lost keys, and more.
• Windscreen & window glass cover, offering one excess-free claim per year for damage to windscreens, window glass and sunroofs.

^Safe Driver Rewards credit/discount is a percentage of the Comprehensive Car Insurance premium paid the previous year and is applied as a credit to next year’s premium.

AAMI’s mobile app takes you through the steps of lodging a claim, allowing you to gather details at the time of the incident, take and upload photos directly, and track your claim as it progresses. It’s available both on the Apple Store for iOS devices and on Google Play for Androids.

If you don’t have the app, you can also conveniently lodge your claim online. You’ll need the information of all drivers, passengers, and witnesses involved in the incident. That’s full names, registration details, addresses, and contact numbers. If you’ve taken photos at the time of the incident, have them ready, too.

Finally, it’s helpful to have your AAMI car insurance policy number on hand when you begin to lodge your claim too.

Because we cover all legal modifications and accessories fitted to your car, there’s usually no need to list them on your policy. Just ensure the amount you cover your car for is enough to also include the value of all the insured accessories and modifications.

To make things simpler for you, AAMI takes care of the entire quote and repair process, using one of our preferred repairers. That means after you've lodged your claim, you can sit back, relax, and let us handle things.

If you have Comprehensive Car Insurance and your car is assessed to be a total loss or a 'write off' from an incident covered by your policy, then instead of being repaired, the amount your car is covered for will be given as a cash payout (less any deductions). 

If your car is less than 2 years old, and you're the first registered owner, we'll replace it with a new car of the same make, model and series (if available within 90 days), or similar if not available. If you choose not to accept the replacement car, or where an agreement cannot be reached between us on a replacement car, or a replacement car cannot be supplied, we will pay you the amount covered on your certificate of insurance (less any deductions). No, your AAMI car insurance policy only applies when you drive in Australia.

Two-wheel trailers attached to your car are covered by Comprehensive Car Insurance. As long as it’s attached to your car when the incident happens, we pay up to $1,000 for accidental damage. Theft of your attached trailer is also covered.

Hire cars are only available as additional covers in two instances for Comprehensive Car Insurance. Firstly if an incident wasn't your fault and secondly, if your car was stolen. We will also arrange a hire car if you have cover for Third Party Fire & Theft Car Insurance (see the PDS for full details).​

• If your car is damaged by an incident where you or the driver of your car weren't at fault and it cannot be safely driven or is in for repairs, as long as you can give us the name and address of the person at fault and the registration number of the at fault vehicle involved, we'll cover the reasonable cost of a hire car that meets your needs.​

• If your car is stolen, we will provide you with a hire car that meets your needs for up to 21 days.​
  In addition to this, if you have Comprehensive Car Insurance and you’ve been involved in an incident that was your fault and you have also purchased our optional cover – hire car after an event, we will provide you with a hire car that’s a similar make or model to your own car, for up to $90 a day until your car is repaired, returned undamaged or we settle your claim.​

Please note:

• You may not be able to use the hire car for ridesharing purposes.​
• A hire car cannot be used by learner drivers or drivers under 25.​

In short; yes it does. When you get a quote for an AAMI car insurance policy, we need to ask questions about your driving history. This information, along with other data, helps us work out your premium and your excess. Having previous driving convictions or charges against you doesn't necessarily mean we won't cover you, but it can depend on the severity and how recent the events were.

Driver History Excess

A drivers history excess applies if a listed driver involved in an accident has had their licence cancelled, suspended, disqualified or restricted in the 3 year's prior to the start of the period of insurance.

Understanding the different types of excess is important, because if you're involved in an accident this will be your out-of-pocket expense. 

Safe Driver Rewards

There can be cost benefits in keeping a safe driving record as an AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance policy holder. Over time, you may receive up to 15% credit off your premium, and up to 25% off your Roadside Assist.* These benefits may apply to anyone with Comprehensive Car Insurance who keeps a safe driving record (i.e. makes no claims where they or a driver of their car is at fault) for a set number of years. This is regardless of their prior history before starting their Comprehensive Car Insurance policy with AAMI. Terms and conditions do apply, so for more information on how it works check out the Safe Driver Rewards page.

* Safe Driver Rewards is a percentage of last year's Comprehensive Car Insurance premium (before any Safe Driver Reward credit), and is applied as a credit to next year's premium. Maximum 15% discount is for drivers who don't make a claim on their Comprehensive Car Insurance policy that impacts their Safe Driver Rewards status for 10 years+.

Comprehensive Car Insurance is a type of car insurance that covers you for:

• accidental damage to your car
• damage that may be caused by the use of your car cause to other vehicles and property, and
• theft, fire, and malicious damage to your car.

It offers more features and benefits compared to other levels of cover, such as Third Party Car Insurance.

Yep! AAMI Roadside Assist can be added to any AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance policy. It offers unlimited 24/7 roadside callouts and can help with things like flat batteries, lost keys, and more. Terms and conditions apply.

We’re sorry you’re thinking of cancelling. For policy cancellations or to discuss your situation further, please call us on 13 22 44.

You have 21 days from when your policy begins (including on renewal) to change your mind. If you cancel within this period and haven’t made a claim, you can get a full refund (including GST if applicable).

Outside of the 21 day cooling off period, you can cancel your policy at any time and receive a refund of the unexpired portion of your premium (including GST if applicable), less any non-refundable government charges. We will not give a refund if the refund is less than $10 (GST inclusive).​

The Safe Driver Rewards status is linked to your policy, rather than to the vehicle itself. If you are  replacing your vehicle, you can go online and update your existing policy details with the details of your new vehicle (an extra premium or refund may apply). If you have a new car and haven’t yet sold your old one, give us a call on 13 22 44. We can help make sure you keep your hard-earned Safe Driver Rewards status.

You can login to My Account here.

No. Since the Safe Driver Rewards status is linked to a policy rather than to a person, each policy will have its own Safe Driver Rewards status. These status’ will not affect each other.

If you make a claim such as where the driver of your car caused or contributed to the damage, or you can't give us the details of the driver that was at fault, your Safe Driver Rewards status will bump back by a status level. Otherwise, your status won't change!

With Safe Driver Rewards Protection, which you earn at Diamond status, you can make one claim per year without impacting your status. However, you won’t receive a Safe Driver Rewards credit at the next renewal. But, you’ll still be entitled to discount off optional AAMI Roadside Assist.
