  • Car theft and damage

    You’re covered for damage or loss caused by theft, attempted theft, collision, malicious damage and fire.

  • Damage to other people's vehicles

    For damage to someone else’s vehicle or property, we’ll insure you for up to $20 million. For damage to your car we’ll insure you for the amount you covered your car for.

  • Accessories and Modifications

    At AAMI we cover all legal modifications and accessories fitted to your car, there’s usually no need to list them on your policy. Just ensure the amount you cover your car for is enough to also include the value of all the insured accessories and modifications.

  • Hire Car Cover for not at fault and theft

    At AAMI we provide you with a hire car after a no-fault accident (for unlimited days until your car is repaired and returned, or your claim is settled) if you can provide full details of the at fault driver and their vehicle.

    If your car is stolen, we’ll keep you on the road with a hire car until your claim is settled or your car is returned to you, up to a maximum of 21 days.

    You can also enjoy the convenience of a hire car for all types of claims by adding on Hire Car as an optional extra.

Do I need Comprehensive Car Insurance?

If it suits your budget, Comprehensive Car Insurance is definitely worth considering. It covers damage to your own car from a range of events, while Third Party Property Damage is designed to cover your liability for damage you cause to other people’s property.
Coverage for damage to your car from fire and theft can be added to Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance, but other events would still not be covered. **

Write Off

We consider your car a write off when:

  • It’s stolen and unrecovered after 14 days; or
  • We decide it's uneconomical, impractical or unsafe to repair.

We also refer to this as ‘total loss’.

Amount Covered

How much your vehicle's insured for.

It’s the maximum amount we’ll pay for loss or damage to your vehicle caused by an insured incident.  The amount is shown on your certificate of insurance and includes GST.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Car Insurance Claim Very happy with the service for our claim for hail damage to our car. Claim was handled very promptly with good communication. Only bugbear is the question on Date of Birth on the online claim form. Using a tablet this requires the user to use the calendar function and then cycle back to the date of birth. In may case as I'm 65 this required 780 taps to cycle back to my birth date. There does not appear to be an override facility to allow the user to directly enter the date. This is very poor programming.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Entering date of birth is cumberfsome Product is fine, as I have always insured my cars with AAMI. Feedback here is mostly about experience with the website to complete the transaction, particularly using roller to enter the DOB for both drivers. It takes too long as it requires too many clicks to enter the date, month and year for both drivers. The default is current day and month, which makes no sense, because no one born today would be taking an insurance policy to insure a car. Scrolling down the system offers an alternate date around 1920. From then on you have to click to scroll down from 2018, or up from 1920. Too many clicks when I could have entered the date much quicker.

AAMI settled the claim quickly to enable us to purchase a replacement vehicle, and they organised removal of the burnt out vehicle. This took a lot of worry off our shoulders. Thank you

Rated 1 out of 5 by from shocking phone service when trying to pay a quote over phone csr good not see i was authorised on my wifes policy to discuss it. i have spoken to people there at least 6 times over the last year about th epolicy and there has never been an issue finding after my wife out me on the file as someone who can discuss all elements of our current policy that we were trying to "extend" with a new online quote. even spoke to someone 3 hours ago there and there was no issue. csr could not fnd the quote number i quoted. she could not understand it was a quote i was calling about and not a renewal. she asked me three times if i wanted to pay the renewal. i tried to explain to her 4 times i wanted to pay a new quote - i gave up on her and told her we would call back tomorrow. instead i went back on line, got a new online quote and today i was able to pay that one as opposed to last nights quote that i couldn't. either i was speaking to a new csr or someone that needs extra (re-)training. And i certainly don't have time for this poor level of trained service

Insuring with AAMI on line is easy, and you don't have to answer heaps of questions to get a quote that is more expensive anyway!

I was able to alter the excess amount and car value to match my old policy and compare like-for-like. I saved $380 by changing to AAMI. The policies offered on two insurance comparison websites weren't even close to this price.
