Car insurance covers you didn't know you had
Your AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance is just that — comprehensive. So in addition to covering the obvious stuff, like damage from accidents and theft, there are a few coverage types that you may not be aware of.
New car after a total loss
If your car is stolen or damaged in an incident covered under your policy, and your claim is accepted as a total loss – in other words, if it’s a write-off — we’ll replace it with a new car of the same or similar make, model and series. There are some conditions, just FYI. For example, you must be the first registered owner and your car must be less than two years old at the time of the incident.
If you have an accident far from home, we won’t leave you stranded. We’ll cover the cost of reasonable emergency accommodation if your car is stolen or not safe to drive and you’re more than 100km from home.
Baby capsules and child seats
Parents and carers will be glad to know we cover the cost of replacing baby capsules and child seats up to $500 each if your car is stolen or damaged in a crash — which is great news, because those things aren’t cheap!
Hire car after theft or not-at-fault accident
With AAMI, you won’t be off the road for long. We’ll provide you with a hire car that meets your needs for up to 21 days if your car is stolen. If you're involved in a not-at-fault accident (and you can provide us with full details of the at fault driver and their vehicle registration number), we'll provide you with a hire car until we repair and return your car or your claim is settled. If you’d like cover for a hire car after other insured incidents, including incidents where you’re at fault, you can get this as an Optional Cover that you pay extra for.
Having your car stolen is one thing, but losing valuables that were inside adds salt to the wound. Luckily, AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance not only covers your car, but certain personal items inside the car if your car is stolen. Some things aren’t included (such as tools and items related to your business), so it’s a good idea to call us if you have any questions. For things that aren’t covered, you may be able to insure them as portable valuables under your Home Contents Insurance policy.
Transport, towing and storage
When your car is damaged in an insured incident and isn’t safe to drive, or needs to be held in storage, we’ll cover the cost of one tow to get your car from the scene of the incident to our nearest repairer and store your car. We’ll also cover up to $250 to get you to the repairer, your destination or a hire car provider.
Feel more secure knowing both you and your car are looked after with AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance.
