3 things to look for in health insurance for over 50s

By  AAMI

Health insurance over 50 should be about finding a level of cover that’s best suited to how you want to do things. If you have children, and they’ve left home, your health insurance will most likely be more about you than your old family health insurance cover was.

Whether you’re changing from family cover to another level of cover, or want to change insurers, here are 3 things you should look for in health insurance for over 50s.

1. A suitable level of health insurance cover

Hospital and/or Extras should be based on your needs. When looking for health insurance, compare what each level covers and (most importantly) what it doesn’t cover.

For example, you may have a completed family – your kidlets are now fully-grown and you have no plans on having any more – so why would you need pregnancy and birth-related cover? On the other hand, you may have changing health needs and would prefer services like rehabilitation from injury. Comparing levels of cover in this way lets you weigh up the pros and cons of what you need and don’t need.

2. Easy to claim & communicate

For many of us, health insurance claims are just one item on a never-ending to-do list. That’s why you want to be confident that you’ll be able to manage your claims, access policy information and speak to a Health Insurance specialist easily.

At AAMI Health Insurance, we’ve made claiming for insured services super simple. Once you’re logged into your account online, simply enter the details or upload a photo of your receipt. We’ll keep you up to date on the progress of your claim, through your online account and via email.

Fancy talking to a real person? We understand! When you’ve got a query about a claim or a question about your policy, feel free to jump on the phone. You can call 13 22 44 from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

3. Extras cover you can use to get more back

AAMI Health Insurance is divided into four levels of Extras cover. Depending on your needs and the level of cover you choose, you can get up to 70% of the cost of Extras back each time you claim (up until you reach the annual limit). For example, if you take out AAMI Health Insurance Premium Active Extras cover, you can get back 70% on Physio, Chiro, and Osteo – say you paid a visit to your Chiro and it cost $100, you’ll get $70 back in your wallet. You can claim this up until you reach your annual claimable limit.

While the other services on your health insurance can help if you’re sick or injured, Extras Cover gives you the opportunity to maintain a healthy mind and body.
