5 of some of the best fitness apps to try in 2021

By  AAMI

Whether you’re a gym junkie, an avid cyclist or just ready to start running toward your 2021 summer body – these apps can help you take your health into your own hands.

What are these apps and why should I try them?

To make sure we considered the very best on offer, we teamed up with Vanessa Leone, Movement Therapist and Co-Founder of Exercise to Experience. Vanessa is a qualified personal trainer and avid fitness guru. With Vanessa’s expertise, we were able to catalogue some of the best fitness apps to help you achieve your 2021 summer body goals. So, what did we find?

Calm

Designed to help you sleep, de-stress, rejuvenate and disconnect. This app should get a daily visit regardless of how you’re feeling, as mental health is the key to better health and wellbeing. Take time out for yourself daily, and exercise not only your body, but your mind. This app has a huge range of meditations, sleep stories, breathing exercises and much more to suit anyone and everyone.

MapMyRun

A really great way to track your walks, runs and everything in between. You don't need to set a goal to increase your distance or pace but this app may be useful for keeping you accountable when you’re less inclined to leave the house. Lockdowns can make this especially difficult! It has a huge bank of running routes, and will accurately track pace, distance, and records. It can also give you an audio running coach. This one is great for beginners, the more experienced runner and everyone in between.

MyFitnessPal

An oldie but a goodie. It's easy to lose track of what and how much you are eating, especially when life gets a bit crazy. However, we all know that good nutrition is the key to great physical and mental health. Tracking what you’re eating keeps you accountable, gives accurate nutritional info and allows you to plan iyour treats so you don't have to feel guilty about them. This app is fantastic for making sure you’re getting all the nutrients you need, even when your day-to-day gets busy.

Floe

A new Aussie fitness app that has just launched. This has everything you could need for an excellent workout, from Yoga and Pilates to HIIT Strength and Cardio. All workouts on the app are live so you always have a friendly, experienced trainer interacting with you to keep you safe and on track. There are options for no equipment to a complete deck out, to suit your budget and home set up.

Pedometer++

If you aren't a runner, or you’re not into fitness just yet, a great way to get started is to ensure you’re getting enough movement in the day. Track your steps, not just during your workplace 'Steptember' challenge but throughout your year. Record weekly and monthly averages to ensure you’re moving enough to stay healthy, and set goals to achieve these on a consistent basis.

Vanessa and the team agreed that the best part about these apps is that a lot of them are multi-functional; meaning they can help you manage your health through whatever method suits you best. Much like these, AAMI Health Insurance has a wide range of products to best suit you and how you choose to manage your health. With Extras cover like Everyday Active, you can claim on items that assist your health and wellbeing like gym memberships, personal training and weight management programs, as prescribed by your GP.
