You can now get AAMI Health Insurance to cover couples at all life stages – young couples, those starting a family, and older couples. From love letters to living together, you and your partner have a unique story to tell about looking out for the one you love. Health insurance for couples is just one of the ways you can make sure each of you is covered should something go awry.
Here’s how AAMI Health Insurance can cover you as a couple.
AAMI Health Insurance policies for young couples such as AAMI Starter Hospital are lower cost than some others (like Premium Hospital cover) because we don’t include those higher risk and higher cost services you may not be looking at now, such as heart procedures or pregnancy-related services.
Couples planning a family
As your relationship grows, you may start planning a family.
Thinking about adding a new member to your family? Easily compare your options with AAMI Health Insurance and consider the things you’ll be facing throughout the pregnancy and beyond. AAMI Health Insurance’s most comprehensive cover, Premium Hospital, includes pregnancy and all Medicare recognised in-hospital services, such as:
Pregnancy and birth
fallopian tube, uterus, and ovary infertility investigation
retrieval of eggs and implantation of fertilised eggs.
If you are taking out health insurance for the first time or upgrading your level of cover, a waiting period of 12 months commonly applies before you can claim any benefits for pregnancy and obstetrics services. If you arrange private health cover early, you’ll be able to serve your waiting period as soon as you begin planning a family. In most cases, this means by the time you need to use pregnancy and obstetrics services, you’ll be covered.
For many women, adding Extras cover to their health insurance can offer valuable benefits and support at a very important time. Add Premium Active Extras cover to your Hospital cover to extend the range of Antenatal and Postnatal Services and treatments you’re covered for. Not only will you get higher annual limits, but you’ll also be able to claim 70% back (compared to 60% on our other Extras covers).
If you have kids, they can stay on your health insurance cover until the age of 25 (if they’re unmarried and in full-time study). Once they’ve left the nest, or if you don’t have children, you and your partner should check in on what your health insurance provides. Does it meet our needs? Are we paying for services we’re unlikely to use?
These are just some of the ways AAMI Health Insurance for couples lets you tick the boxes at each stage of your relationship. If you’d like to compare AAMI Health Insurance’s Hospital and Extras covers, you can use our Health Insurance comparison guide to compare which couples insurance meets your lifestyle and budget.
